DevOps has slowly been shaping the software world for the last few years. From 2015 to 2016 DevOps adoption increased by 8%, a figure that continues to increase years on year and experts expect to explode in 2019. But, why DevOps? Because time is money. DevOps seeks to shorten the development lifecycle, whilst still delivering on features, fixes and updates.
I am currently working in partnership with a market leader in the financial sector. This role sits within a department purposed with providing various innovative technology services and solutions to the wider business. The roles are part of an ongoing recruitment drive with a focus on building a strong DevOps team, but importantly a DevOps culture throughout the business. You will be tasked with ensuring the reliability and maintainability of AWS on an enterprise scale.
In terms of the finer details, the role will be focused on breaking down silos through automation and monitoring, which improves both the quality and quantity. As DevOps practices often need a profound cultural shift from corporate bureaucracy, my client proudly empowers employees to innovate and act. DevOps teams with my client are trusted to make decisions without requiring centralised approvals. Which gives you the tools to try new things without the need for management approval.
But enough about the company and the role. This, like any good advert, should be about you and what you need to bring to the table in order to progress this application. The two fundamental concepts of DevOps are continuous Integration and continuous delivery. Therefore my client has highlighted the following skills to facilitate CI/CD.
- Containerisation - Experience working with Docker/Docker Swarm/Kubernetes is preferred. However if you've used others, get in touch.
- AWS - A good understanding of cloud and architecting for the cloud, as well as understanding how to best shape the services for delivery. Using ECS, EC2, VPC, Security Groups, RDS, Secret would be beneficial. Along with commercial experience in Terraform.
- Configuration Management Tools - From Puppet to Ansible, if you've used them I want to hear from you.
In return, you will benefit from a competitive base salary (between £25,000 - £50,000) + benefits.
