I am currently working with a industry leading business who are looking to hire a Platform Engineer to join the existing centralised shared platform team. They're currently operating on Google cloud, however they are open to AWS & Azure candidates if you have good exposure to serverless tools.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Design, development and implementation of the platform solutions using Google Cloud Platform and other shared platforms
  • Automated orchestration of services on the platforms
  • Design, build and deliver pre-approved cloud Infrastructure for consumption by the product/development teams
  • Own and maintain the repository of automated, pre-approved, fully tested and re-usable patterns and templates that can be used by the product teams (everything as code)
  • Provide expert advice to product teams on the best way to use existing services and utilities from the repositories
  • Define platform security standards and ensure they are met, in conjunction with the Information Security team

Skills & Qualifications
  • Good communicator (Written and Oral) with sound facilitation and presentation skills that can be related to colleagues of all levels including third parties and senior leaders
  • Experience of automation, making things repeatable, developing scripts to support these processes
  • Desire to investigate, evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies
  • Experience with optimising and economising within cloud platforms, making use of Committed Use Discounts, scaling up and down, selecting the most efficient storage options
  • Experience detecting and resolving security, performance and availability issues - good troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of IT Operational support processes
  • The personality to question and challenge practices or procedures that do not meet high standards
  • Able to produce clear and comprehensive documentation
  • Hands-on experience writing bash/linux shell scripts and a desire/aptitude to learn more - eg APIs, Python, Java
  • Understanding of computer networking concepts
  • Good understanding of infrastructure and application security
