Job Description

I am working with an extremely exciting bio-tech business who are looking to recruit for an experienced front-end (React developer) to support their growth plans within the biomedical research space. This is an exciting role that will play a big part in the growth of this business & development of some cutting edge technology.


Role & Responsibilities
  • Ownership of the frontend codebase.
  • Implementation of design.
  • Working hand-in-glove with API developers and our lead designer.
  • Be responsible for the development, maintenance, continual testing, quality and deployment of the frontend code.
  • Be engaged in the day to day operations of the platform and work closely with the senior management to ensure customer and user requirements are actualised within the platform.
  • Be engaged in continuous infrastructure analysis, optimization and consolidation, following the addition of new features.
  • Be engaged in the implementation of relevant CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensuring the code is rigorously and continually testing and being responsible for the monitoring and uptime of the webapp.



Skills & Qualifications
  • Proven track record of at least 5 years professional software delivery with extensive knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, primarily frontend.
  • Understanding of web markup, including HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Strong knowledge of common Javascript frameworks and libraries, and frontend best practices.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs.
  • Extensive experience with the React framework and popular technologies related to it like Redux, React Router, etc.
  • Be comfortable collaborating with a designer (in person and via tools such as Figma) to implement web applications.
  • Being able to handle complex scientific information and not being afraid to ask questions if you feel that you are working with incomplete information.
  • Being prepared to adapt in response to feedback.
  • Being sufficiently self-motivated to take initiative and work with minimal oversight and always being willing to learn new skills.
  • Experience with version control systems, preferably Git
  • Recognise the value in testing and documentation in building scalable and stable platforms.
  • An eye for up-and-coming technologies and best practices.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of people (biologists, data scientists, developers).
  • Ability to be productive in a distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation, delivering according to a schedule, and to motivate and mentor others to do the same.
  • Excellent communications skills in the English language, both verbal and written, especially in online environments such as slack, email, video calls, etc.


Other (Desirable)
  • If something doesn't exist, being prepared to build or write it, but also knowing when to build and when it is best to not reinvent the wheel.
  • Experience with having built one or more front end applications that fetches data from an API.
  • Knowledge of authentication and authorisation workflows, such as Oauth2.
  • Familiarity with techniques such as SEO, performance optimisation, web analytics, etc.
  • University degree or equivalent working experience.
  • Appreciation of the philosophy behind the DevOps movement.
  • Experience with CDNs, such as Cloudflare.
  • Experience with Google Cloud.
  • Interest and enthusiasm to work with biomedical data.
