    Role Overview
    The client is seeking a mid-to-senior level contractor with strong backend and infrastructure development experience. The successful candidate will work on maintaining and upgrading a legacy Java/Oracle system, collaborating with existing developers to gain domain knowledge and contribute to modernisation efforts using cloud-based technologies.

    Key Responsibilities
    * Maintain and enhance a monolithic Java application with an Oracle PL/SQL database
    * Pair with existing developers to understand system architecture and business processes
    * Contribute to modernisation efforts and cloud-based development practices
    * Provide 3rd line support and develop tools to streamline support operations
    * Apply test-driven development and CI/CD methodologies in an Agile environment

    The ideal candidate will:
    * Have strong backend development experience, ideally with SQL and RDS
    * Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for working with data
    * Be comfortable working with legacy Oracle PL/SQL code and motivated to improve it
    * View legacy systems as an opportunity to gain valuable domain knowledge
