GCP Data Engineer

Data Engineer - GCP
Location: Hybrid - UK-based
Type: Full-Time | Permanent

A high-growth, specialist financial services organisation is seeking a skilled Data Engineer with strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join its expanding technology team. This is a rare opportunity to shape and scale a next-generation data platform at an enterprise level, supporting data-driven decision-making across a complex, fast-paced business.

The successful candidate will help architect and deliver robust GCP-based data solutions, drive automation, and play a central role in building a best-in-class data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using GCP-native services such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage (GCS).

  • Support the end-to-end data lifecycle - from ingestion and transformation to modelling and serving - optimised for performance and cost-efficiency.

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across data science, analytics, engineering, and operations to align data capabilities with business needs.

  • Drive automation and CI/CD for data workflows using Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Deployment Manager) and DevOps practices.

  • Implement data governance frameworks including metadata management, lineage tracking, role-based access control, and data quality monitoring using tools such as GCP Data Catalog.

  • Contribute to a hybrid cloud data architecture, integrating GCP with other platforms (e.g., Azure) where needed.

  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR), in collaboration with security and compliance teams.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including:

    • BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, IAM

  • Experience with ETL/ELT design, orchestration, and real-time or batch processing in GCP environments.

  • Proficiency in Python or PowerShell for scripting and pipeline automation.

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform) and experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).

  • Familiarity with cloud monitoring, logging, and cost optimisation tools such as Stackdriver and Cloud Monitoring.

  • Experience implementing data governance and security best practices (e.g., RBAC, encryption, auditing).

  • Solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing, and analytics integration.

  • Experience integrating with visualisation platforms such as Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or Domo.

  • Insurance industry data knowledge (e.g., policies, premiums, claims) is beneficial but not required.

The Ideal Candidate

This role suits someone passionate about cloud-native data engineering who thrives in a collaborative, high-performance environment. They will have a strong technical foundation in GCP, a proactive mindset, and a desire to build innovative, reliable data infrastructure at scale.

What's on Offer

  • A key role in building and scaling a modern GCP-based data platform.

  • Work with a high-calibre team in a rapidly growing firm with ambitious tech and data goals.

  • Competitive salary and benefits.

  • Flexible working options (hybrid within the UK).
