Databricks Data Engineer - Newcastle (hybrid) - £450/pd

Please note - this role will require you to attend the Newcastle-upon-tyne based office 2-3 days per week. To be eligible for this role you must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK - this organisation is not able to offer sponsorship.

A leading construction organisation is seeking an experienced Azure Databricks Data Engineer to support the ongoing development and optimisation of their cloud data platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enhance and scale the existing Azure Databricks environment.
  • Collaborate with data architects and analysts to deliver robust data pipelines.
  • Implement best practices for data engineering, performance tuning, and security.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.


Required experience:
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure Databricks and Spark.
  • Solid understanding of Azure Data Lake, Data Factory, and Synapse.
  • Proven track record in building scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Experience working in hybrid environments and cross-functional teams.

Power Bi / SQL opportunity

The client are currently undertaking a significant transformation project, migrating from a legacy on-prem .NET CRM solution to a new cloud-based platform, Financial Cloud.

As part of this transition, we are seeking an experienced Power BI / SQL contractors to support the redevelopment of their reporting infrastructure.

Project Overview
  • Reporting Migration: Converting a large suite of SQL extract-to-Excel reports into Power BI dashboards/Reports.
  • Platform: New solution hosted on AWS Snowflake, with fully cleansed and structured data.
  • Approach: Initial focus on replicating existing report outputs in Power BI, with scope for service improvement and optimisation.
  • Complex Reports: May require custom SQL development.
  • Documentation & Handover: All work must be clearly documented and handed over to our internal NCO team.
  • Simplicity: Ongoing management of the reporting solution must be streamlined and maintainable.


Requirements
  • UK-based and available to start immediately.
  • Willingness to travel to site if needed for clarification with key operations staff.
  • Proven experience with Power BI, SQL, and Snowflake.
  • Ability to suggest and implement improved reporting approaches.

Full-Stack Developer

2 days remote/Hybrid

You will be working within a talented team of analysis/consultants to help deliver analytical solutions and consultancy projects to clients across a range of sectors (travel, manufacturing, microfinance, engineering, services etc.). Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Manage both scheduled and ad hoc data harvesting processes.
  • Write efficient regular expressions to extract data from raw HTML, JSON, and XML.
  • Clean and validate harvested data using automated processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex data processing issues.
  • Maintain and enhance existing data pipelines and services.
  • Improve automation for data processing and delivery.




Core Requirements:
  • Solid understanding of HTTP protocols and request/response architecture.
  • Proficiency in writing Regular Expressions for data extraction.
  • Working knowledge of Python, SQL, and either C# or Java.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Effective communication skills for understanding project needs and working with the team.




Advantageous:
  • Experience with automated data harvesting using Python, C#, or Java.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies (JavaScript, React).
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP (especially BigQuery).
  • Exposure to Big Data tools such as Elasticsearch.
  • Background in the travel industry.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a PMO Analyst with advanced Power BI capabilities to join a global digital technology team driving transformation across a diverse portfolio of programmes and projects. This role sits within a central Portfolio Office and supports the delivery of strategic digital initiatives through data-driven insights, automation, and reporting excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project delivery and business analysis teams to enhance portfolio reporting and dashboard development.
  • Design and build Power BI dashboards for operational and executive-level decision-making.
  • Maintain and innovate digital tools used for internal project and programme delivery.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and workflow enhancements using tools such as Power Automate and AI.
  • Ensure data integrity, quality, and timeliness across portfolio data models.
  • Update and manage core datasets to support accurate reporting.
  • Liaise with internal Power Platform teams to ensure alignment with governance and standards.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a PMO or project management role using best practice delivery disciplines, including Agile methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work across disparate datasets to generate actionable insights.
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including dashboard/report development for various audiences.
  • Experience with SQL, DAX, and Power Query for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • High-level Excel skills for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Project Online, Office 365, and Azure.
  • Solid foundation in risk assessment, problem resolution, and stakeholder influence.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional certifications in project, programme, or portfolio management (e.g., Prince2, PMP, MSP, MoP, P3O).

  • Degree-level education.
